Automatic Mutual Recognition

The Automatic Mutual Recognition Scheme allows workers who hold an occupational registration or licence in one Australian State or Territory to work in other Australian States or Territories without needing to pay additional fees or apply for a separate registration. If you perform the activities of a gaming machine technician, race bookmaker/agent, or sports bookmaker agent in your home jurisdiction, you may be eligible to work in the ACT under the Automatic Mutual Recognition scheme. If you are ineligible, then you will need to apply for the relevant ACT licence.

You will need to set up a digital account and notify the ACT Government of your intent to work in the ACT via this form .

The following list describes the scope of activities for classes of licence in scope for AMR. Occupations not listed here are not in scope.

Gaming technician

Maintaining, repairing and servicing approved gaming machines. A gaming technician operating in the ACT must be employed by a gaming machine supplier authorised in the ACT.

Race bookmaker

Taking bets, calculates odds, and paying out winnings for horse racing at approved racing venues in the ACT.

Public Protection Requirements: A $250,000 security guarantee has been determined under s90 of the Race and Sports Bookmaking Act 2001 for race bookmakers operating at approved race bookmaking venues.

Race bookmaker Agent

Act on behalf of an approved Race Bookmaker, performing all the permitted activities of the race bookmaker.

A Race bookmaker Agent operating in the ACT must be employed by an approved ACT Race Bookmaker.

Casino Employee

Persons employed in relation to gaming, security, finance and other key areas of the casino. Employees in low risk areas of the casino (e.g. food and beverage and cleaning) are not required to hold a licence.

A casino employee operating in the ACT must be employed by the Licenced Casino Operator. Individuals looking to mutually recognise in the ACT are encouraged to approach the Casino prior to notifying us of your intent to work in the ACT.
